Amazon Technical Construction Manager (BIM), Global Engineering & Security Services (GESS) Design & Construction in Virtual, United States

Description

Amazon is seeking a Technical Construction Manager with Construction and Design BIM proficiency to support the execution of BIM requirements and processes across the Global Customer Fulfillment (GCF) program. This role will serve as the primary liaison between key internal Amazon design stakeholder teams, the GES Pre-Construction and Construction Execution teams, external design teams and general contractors to coordinate project work of all.

Key job responsibilities

  • Develop a clear understanding of assigned building type technical design standards/ templates within the BIM Operations Portfolio, supporting alignment of projects to building templates and template development through project lessons learned

  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for maintaining and creating new BIM standards and coordination workflows

  • Support Amazon pre-construction and construction management teams with site design phase development as well as construction phase design change implementation with Amazon internal stakeholders

  • Engage with GES Design and Construction Preconstruction and Construction Management to implement Building Information Modeling (BIM) standards from bid phase through construction and turnover for an assigned building template type(s)

  • Ensure alignment of project stakeholders with all aspects of BIM scope, standards, and coordination processes for up to 6 projects at a time. Engage design, construction, and internal Amazon stakeholders in coordination meetings following defined processes.

  • Guide the start, execution, and finalization of coordination processes for the design, construction, and engineering phases of projects, engaging with internal design and engineering groups to identify, track and resolve issues discovered as a part of coordination

  • Serve as a lead problem solver gathering constraints and requirements of design disciplines, constructability constraints and engineering requirements to help deliver results for projects

  • Validate the execution of BIM obligations by those under within the contractual chain to Amazon GES Design and Construction, identifying any issues with internal BIM execution and escalating appropriately

  • Complete onboarding for external design and construction companies to ensure alignment on project BIM Execution for those companies and those they contact with

  • Work independently while earning trust and building strong rapport across a broader team – deliver results through good management and strong relationships

  • Clear understanding of field constructability, construction means and methods, including project sequencing and scheduling constraints

  • Operate strategically, efficiently and frugally in all role responsibilities

  • Accelerate progress by seeking out the best decision and being the responsible decision-maker in critical coordination and site BIM discussions

  • Identify key design/construction constraints

  • Balance expediency, quality and resources through prioritization

  • Manage efficient and organized meetings

  • Leads detailed design discussions while ensuring program-level goals are met

  • Clear and concise in verbal and written communications

  • Up to 60% travel may be required for the role as needed

A day in the life

  • Management of coordination related activities between the facility and Amazon operations equipment

  • Leading project meetings including coordination meetings, project status calls, escalations from the team

  • Managing a project schedule integrating high level detail of stakeholders schedules, tracking progress

  • Working directly with Revit, Navisworks Manage, BIM360/ACC

  • Developing documentation to support project BIM and coordination related work, supporting the development of BIM standards

  • Coordinating with the project Construction Manager on design implementation, project costs, design changes, team performance issues

  • Direct contact with design teams and general contractors as a resource for interfacing with all aspects of internal Amazon teams to remove coordination roadblocks

About the team

BIM Operations is a team with a background in design, construction management, BIM software and workflows, and technical coordination. The team works as a resource for the most technical and challenging types of fulfillment center projects, serving as a conduit between the team managing the project (including the primary Construction Manager) and other engineering teams that manage Material Handling, Robotics, and Operations primarily. To support the mission, BIM Operations also manages the administration of the data sharing and BIM coordination environment for projects where engaged.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Construction Management.

  • 7+ years of project management experience from design development through construction administration on commercial projects

  • 7+ years of experience with project management/productivity tools: Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam Revu, Scheduling Software (Project, P6, etc.)

  • 5+ years of experience with Autodesk Suite (Revit, Construction Cloud (BIM360), Navisworks) including clash detection workflows

Preferred Qualifications

  • Architectural or Construction project management experience on commercial, commercial warehousing or industrial projects

  • Ability to communicate technical design content to non-technical team members

  • Ability to clearly derive desired outcomes and synthesize requirements across many different teams to create solutions that meet the needs of most project stakeholders simultaneously

  • Project management experience leading design development or construction execution on projects that include industrial warehouse, fulfillment facilities, and/or manufacturing facilities

  • Proven record of leading multi-discipline coordination on new and in-flight design and construction projects, including BIM coordination, Value Engineering (VE), and cost/schedule mitigating measures.

  • Performs well in a fast-paced, multi-project environment and be capable of prioritizing critical work on each project.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $61,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $155,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
