Summary: JH Kelly has grown into one of the largest mechanical contractors in the Pacific Northwest. Our Projects encompass everything from building foundations, structural steel, and all types of process and material moving equipment to intricate process piping and instrumentation & control systems. As a self-performing general contractor, we excel at completing complex, multi-craft projects under challenging schedule constraints. As a Field Engineer/Project Assistant, you will work in a team environment where you participate in the preconstruction processes, design and virtual construction, fabrication, workflows, field installation of mechanical systems, and start-up and commissioning of those systems.  Learning objectives in this role include, but are not limited to, the detailing of mechanical systems (mechanical piping, and plumbing), coordinating work with customers and other trades through the BIM process, supporting tasks associated with estimating projects, interacting with our suppliers, vendors, and subcontractors, and working with our field craft. The Field Engineer/Project Assistant is accountable to and takes direction from either the Project Manager or Project Superintendent, depending upon how the project dynamics are initially established.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Learn, follow, and promote Company safety protocols

  • Schedule, verify, and coordinate the submittal processes; Ensure components will function as intended, are coordinated with the associated components, and are furnished in accordance with the contractual, subcontract, and purchase order criteria

  • Verify and follow the schedule of submittal through the approval process. Ensure the fabrication schedule is in support of the material need dates

  • Monitor and manage vendors and OEMs to ensure project compliance

  • When assigned, provide scheduling support to the team

  • Clearly communicate scope, specification, and Quality Assurance requirements to Fab Shop Assist the Project Superintendent as required

  • Perform field engineering for construction convenience items including calculation and design drafting when required

  • Coordinate Inspections by Authorities having jurisdiction and 3rd Party Inspection Agencies Maintain all Quality Assurance documentation Maintain accurate field engineering records

  • Perform and/or monitor all project surveying and maintain project survey records.

  • Prepare quantity reports in support of the Project Superintendent Coordinate details with all subcontractors

  • Maintain shop and contract drawings in a current and neat condition

  • Thoroughly review all drawings, submittals, samples, and shop drawings, to ensure the end product will be in accordance with the contract

  • Track all drawings, submittals, shop drawings, and revisions utilizing Document Control Procedures

  • Maintain current logs and copies of subcontracts and revisions

  • Maintain project controls to track and control all change documents

  • Take off quantities and prepare pricing for changes when so directed

  • Maintain in progress as-built drawings and specifications

  • Assemble and Maintain Required System Turnover documentation

  • Perform quantity tracking and production analysis.

  • Assembly and develop work packages for fabrication and field install processes. Monitor and update as required for compliance.

  • Perform additional tasks or projects as assigned

    Relationships:

  • Maintain proactive and positive relationships within the crafts, including shop and field craft personnel.

  • Foster positive relationships with customer representatives, vendors, suppliers, subcontractors, safety, CAD/BIM, accounting, IT, and all project teams.

    Experience / Qualifications:

  • Construction Management, Mechanical, Industrial, Civil engineering degree and/or equivalent experience or education

  • Scheduling experience or education

  • Pre-commissioning experience or education

  • Proficient in reading drawings and isometrics

  • Understanding of industrial piping and commercial mechanical systems

    Necessary Skills:

  • Fully Proficient in Microsoft Office & Bluebeam – intermediate skills in Excel

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Self-starter, motivated, and takes initiative

  • Organized and productive

  • Ability to proactively build and cultivate relationships

  • Ability to maintain proactive, collaborative, and professional relationships with Client Representatives, Suppliers, Subcontractors, and internal team

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with multiple tasks and projects at hand

  • Energetic and eager to prioritize workload and tackle new projects and ideas

  • Must have a valid driver's license

  • Compensation: $30-$42 per hour (DOE), FLSA non-exempt (OT eligible).
