Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Patent Paralegal in Tarrytown, New York

The Patent Paralegal will provide support for the patent prosecution and docketing process. The role will work closely with an active group of patent attorneys/agents and interact with outside legal counsel as well as other legal groups in the Law Department. In addition, the paralegal will contribute to administrative projects intended to develop an IP Department displaying the highest legal and ethical standards.

In this role, a typical day might include the following:

  • Supporting a team of attorneys and agents with docketing, docket management, and formalities.

  • Processing patent-related email received from the IP team and US and foreign patent counsel, extracting data and attachments from those emails to save in Regeneron's patent docketing database (Anaqua), and docketing each individual deadline according to patent law or outside counsel guidance.

  • Entering commentary to patent deadlines indicating current status and removing completed patent deadlines upon receipt of confirmation of filing.

  • Preparing, distributing, and updating docket reports for attorneys/agents every two weeks or as requested.

  • Working with attorneys/agents to track deadlines and ensure that all deadlines are met in a timely fashion.

  • Generating various portfolio reports as requested by the IP team.

  • Coordinating functions with the IP docketing group.

  • Providing occasional backup assistance for clerical/administrative tasks as needed.

  • Developing best practices and internal SOPs for ensuring a high functioning IP Department.

  • Managing internal and external resources, as may be necessary, to fulfill the aforementioned responsibilities.

To be considered for this opportunity, you must have an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of US and foreign patent paralegal experience and/or docketing experience in a law firm or in-house patent department, biotech experience a plus. Paralegal certification a plus. Thorough knowledge of US and foreign patent prosecution, including deadlines and all forms of patent documents. Expertise with the Anaqua™ IP management system or other patent docketing databases. Expertise in using computer databases and web-based platforms. Familiarity with Sharepoint, Teams and QlikView is a plus. Ability to independently oversee patent docketing matters, patent prosecution and related projects, and work collaboratively with other personnel at Regeneron. Ability to handle multiple complex docketing matters and see projects through to conclusion. Familiarity with the USPTO website and other US and foreign patent internet sites and tools. Notary Public or willingness to obtain Notary Public certification. Experience with Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and Adobe Acrobat Professional.
