Associate Director, Cross-Portfolio Strategic Integration

The Cross-Portfolio Strategic Integration (CPSI) role will provide portfolio management and research governance support for Thematic Research Centers (TRCs) in the Research organization to ensure effective planning and execution of our pipeline and strategic priorities. The incumbent will work closely with functional leaders and subject matter experts across the research & development organizations in one or more of the following therapeutic areas- oncology, hematology, immunology, cardiovascular, and neuroscience. The role is an Associate Director level role that will report to the Executive Director, Cross-Portfolio Strategic Integration.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Drive optimal research portfolio performance from discovery to first-in-human clinical trials through partnership with Thematic Research Center (TRC) & functional leaders

  • Manage TRC research governance planning and execution to facilitate the delivery of research programs to achieve strategic objectives, promoting cross-functional communication and decision-making

  • Collaborate seamlessly with key functional stakeholders to effectively coordinate cross-portfolio activities

  • Serve as a resource for data collation and reporting for several discovery research portfolios (TRCs) to enable strategic decision making that aligns with R&D

  • Drive and/or contribute to TRC-level and cross-therapeutic strategic executional projects (mapping, prioritization exercises, etc.)

  • Proactively identify opportunities to embed relevant best practices, technologies, frameworks, and tools to optimize processes. Identify & mitigate risks to asset performance and business value delivery

  • Support the planning and execution of program leadership development program to promote continuous learning & enable high-performing program teams

  • Collaborate on functional strategic initiatives to improve transparency and continuity of the discovery portfolio to ensure successful progression of the portfolio and transition to early drug development (program transition requirements, research portfolio prioritization, etc.)

  • Foster cross-functional synergies within and across TRC leadership and across R&D

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree with 12+ years of academic / industry experience

Or

Master’s Degree with 10+ years of academic / industry experience

Or

Ph.D. with 8+ years of academic / industry experience

4+ years of leadership experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD with 8+ years of experience with 4+ years of leadership experience is ideal or Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, or a relevant discipline with 12+ years or more of experience.

  • 5-7+ years’ experience with a strong scientific background and familiarity with drug discovery and early development processes

  • Demonstrated experience in project and/or portfolio management preferred

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface with a broad range of stakeholders at all levels of the organization.  ​This includes the ability to listen, understand requirements, and convey information clearly and concisely.

  • Ability to lead and motivate teams, facilitate discussions, and influence stakeholders to drive decision making. This includes the ability to inspire and empower others, resolve conflicts, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

  • High proficiency in and demonstration of critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision making. ​

  • Anticipates needs and assesses and manages risks.

  • Demonstrated innovation, flexibility, open-mindedness, and adaptability to meet objectives in a rapidly changing environment. ​

  • Ability to build trusting relationships, and work across functions, scientific backgrounds, and cultures.  ​

  • Strong ability to make connections and identify interdependencies to drive portfolio performance

For California Sites - The starting compensation for this job is a range from $159,000 – $220,000 , plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility). The starting pay takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and where the job is performed. Final, individual compensation is decided based on demonstrated experience.
