Johnson & Johnson Medtech is recruiting for a Lead UX Designer. This position is located in Santa Clara, California.

Overview

You will join the Human Factors & Experience Design (HFXD) team and lead all aspects of UX strategy on the OTTAVA™ surgical robotic system and related experiences.

Working closely with designers, product management and human factors, you will drive the future of surgical robotics. Your day to day will incorporate concepting inspiring north stars, aligning designs across the team to the roadmap, and crafting the best user experience for the entire medical team.

Surgery is a team sport, so you will be encouraged to become familiar with a range of user types across a variety of clinical specialties. You'll bring your passion for design to a broad range of projects using both internal and external resources. Although the scope of your work is focused on digital interactions, this role should consider the physical experience as well.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead UX design strategy and vision for the OTTAVA surgical robot

  • Craft visions, concepts and UX direction for multiple robotic systems

  • Align the work across a team of UX designers to a single platform experience

  • Work with Industrial Designers, Human Factors Engineers, and User Experience Researchers to promote a unified vision of the User's best experience

  • Collaborate with teams and leadership to align experience expectations across multiple releases

  • Mentor and develop talent of other UX Designers within the team

  • Partner with fellow HFXD leaders to craft the team culture and advance the team's overall impact across experiences that we support

Qualifications

Education:

Required:

  • Bachelor's or equivalent experience in Human-Computer Interaction, Digital/Visual Design, Industrial Design or other related field

Preferred:

  • Masters or other higher level degrees are a plus and will be considered as part of the applicant's professional experience

Required Skills & Experience:

  • At least 10 years of proven ability to design digital experiences for highly sophisticated systems (or Masters plus 8 years)

  • 2 years leading UX teams (management experience is not necessary)

  • Experience with end-to-end product development with multiple products launched

  • Experience crafting experiences for medical devices and/or other physical devices

  • Proficiency with typical UX design tools (Adobe Suite, Figma, etc.)

  • Strong portfolio demonstrating an outcome-focused, innovative design process

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with the regulations of the medical or pharmaceutical industry

  • Experience mentoring and guiding junior designers, supporting to their professional growth and team success

Other:

  • This position is based in Santa Clara, and requires the ability to travel up to 10%, international and domestic

The anticipated base pay range for this position is [$139,500] to [$224,400].

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/ performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.
