Job Description

DUTIES:

Partner with R&D engineers to resolve new design, historical performance and quality issues of previous generation designs with focus on reliability and robustness.

Structure and release BoMs for electronic modules to optimize production efficiency and product cost including analog electronics, RF (low MHz range) electronics, digital electronics, low level signal (uA) electronics, as well as high voltage electronics (up to 12 KV).

Develop functional test procedures and fixtures that east at either the PCBA level or the electronic module level for the new products at the suppliers and routine manufacturing

Drive design and process optimization for manufacturability, serviceability and reliability as part of continuous improvement activities.

Troubleshoot electrical and electronic component/system failures during system test of the Mass Spectrometer instruments, both triple quad and Trbrids. Failures can be as simple as an incorrectly assembled cable or as complex as an interaction between software and a digital electronics PCBA.

Train manufacturing engineers and production team on the new electronic modules theory of operation and functional testing such as: RF Coil Box Assy producing up to 10 KV pk-pk of 1 MHxz RF or Lens module producing up to 32 DC voltages ranging from -300VDC +300 VDC.

Document design changes by writing and reviewing Engineering Change Order.

Process development and design transfer of electronic modules to production with the goal in launching new world-class mass spectrometers.

Design, test, and document electrical systems that will be integrated into state-of-the-art analytical instrumentation.

Design mixed signal, analog, and digital circuits, create schematics, design embedded systems using microprocesses, microcontrollers, and FPGAs.

Author and conduct engineering specifications and conduct electrical test plans.

Support design for Manufacturing and Testability, conduct PCB layout, contribute to design reviews, and validate and debug complete mass spectrometers.

TRAVEL:

Up to 2% domestic and international travel required.

REQUIREMENTS:

PhD or foreign degree equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field of study plus one year of experience in Electrical Engineering with hands-on instrumentation, lab, and analysis experience, or related experience. Employer will also accept a Bachelor’s degree or foreign degree equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field of study plus 5 years of experience in Electrical Engineering with hands-on instrumentation, lab, and analysis experience, or related experience. Employer will also accept a Master’s degree or foreign degree equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field of study plus 3 years of experience in Electrical Engineering with hands-on instrumentation, lab, and analysis experience, or related experience as equivalent alternatives.

Required knowledge or experience with:

Analog circuit design and analysis;

Schematic capture, simulation, and PCB layout;

Prototyping and end-to-end development;

Debugging and troubleshooting of circuits;

FPGA and Microcontroller programming;

Programming in scripting language;

Machine Learning;

NI data acquisition systems and LabVIEW programming;

Oscilloscope, Multimeter, and Soldering; and

Planning, tracking, and managing projects.

Salary: $180,003 to $207,500 per year

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $180,003.00–$207,500.00.
