State of Utah - Jobs Crash Attenuator Project Manager in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is seeking a skilled and motivated person for the Crash Attenuator Project Manager

 

(Transportation Project Manager) position in the Central Maintenance Division. This position will be responsible for the administration of UDOT's crash attenuator program. You

 will be the lead in the planning,coordinating and directing of the installation and repair of crash attenuators. In conjunction with this effort,this position will build and maintain an inventory of crash cushion devices to be ready to respond to accidents and maintain equipment and shop space required for a functioning crew. You will work closely with the region maintenance stations and Region offices in the charging and billing for crash cushion replacements and repair required due to accidents. This position will initially be working on the development of the processes and procedures for this new crew. You will need to acquire the needed equipment and training in order to be able to perform the work and also to train the other staff as they are hired.

You will also be responsible for cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with Maintenance staff in the Regions. You will provide major support to the Region maintenance crews. You will act as a liaison between Central Maintenance and the regions,and coordinate the repair,replacement and training on crash cushions.

*Principal Duties *

As a Crash Attenuator Project Manager,you will:

  • Set goals,establish priorities,manage resources,develop approaches and make management decisions for the crash attenuator crew.
  • Oversee the development of the Crash Attenuator crew,assist in establishing the defined roles and responsibilities of the crew personnel.
  • Supervising employees including: hiring,determining workload and delegating assignments,training,coaching,mentoring,monitoring and evaluating performance,and initiating corrective or disciplinary actions.
  • Manage the UDOT Crash Cushion crew equipment assigned to the crew for operations.
  • Manage the inventory of crash attenuator replacements and parts to be installed by the crew.
  • Coordinate with the Region maintenance personnel on repair and replacement of crash attenuators.
  • Coordinate with the region Accounting groups on the cost associated with crash attenuator repair and replacements.
  • Manage the budget activities and coordinate accident repair costs with the Region offices.

*The Ideal Candidate * The best qualified candidate will have:

  • A Bachelor's degree,or higher,in a related field with four years of equivalent experience or eight years of related experience in lieu of a Bachelor's degree (or a combination of education and experience is acceptable).
  • Knowledge of materials,methods,and the tools involved in the construction or repair of crash attenuators,guardrail and barrier.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Leadership qualities .

Preferences Preference may be given to candidates with at least one of the following:

  • Experience in working with crash attenuators.
  • Experience with UDOT's Maintenance Program.

  • Working Conditions:  Risks which require the use of special safety precautions and/or equipment,e.g.,working around operating machines,working with contagious diseases or chemicals,etc. This position requires you to frequ ently be exposed to hazards and discomforts of traffic and environmental conditions due to the nature of the work assignment. 
  • Physical Requirements:  Work requires physical exertion. May require the ability to stand; walk over rough surfaces; bend,crouch,stoop,stretch,reach,lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a r curring manner and/or for long periods of time
  • Employee may be reassigned to a different location as deemed necessary by the Group Leader.
