What is it that we do at Colonial Pipeline Company?

Colonial Pipeline is the largest refined products pipeline in the United States, transporting more than 100 million gallons or 2.5 million barrels per day. Colonial transports various grades of gasoline, diesel fuel, home heating oil, jet fuel, and fuels for the U.S. military through a pipeline system. Colonial transports approximately 45 percent of all fuel consumed on the East Coast, providing refined products to more than 50 million Americans.

This position is open to being based remotely along Colonial's Pipeline and will consider relocation for candidates.

About Senior Electrical Engineer Position

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will provide engineering technical expertise, leadership, and engineering analysis to complete a wide variety of engineering assignments. You will apply engineering techniques and analyses to improve pipeline and facility safety, reliability, and efficiency. The Senior Electrical Engineer recognizes and addresses the health and safety hazards involved with the performance of assigned duties within different environments throughout the pipeline system. You will work with various work groups to ensure compliance with Colonial standards, specifications, practices and/or processes. As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you a subject matter expert and will serve as a mentor to other team members.

What You Get to Do:

  • Provide technical expertise as needed to resolve complex maintenance issues/electrical equipment faults and designs comprehensive maintenance approaches to optimize resources and overall effectiveness.

  • Evaluate/implement/upgrade specialty engineered equipment such as low and medium voltage switchgear, high voltage substations, large induction motors, soft starts, VFDs, UPS, PLCs, automation equipment, etc.

  • Troubleshoot electrical problems; lead the analysis of electrical equipment including large motors root cause failure and motor sizing / interchange; develop alternatives and propose & implement solutions for long-term reliability.

  • Perform engineering design, develop, and review preventive maintenance procedures, perform system integrity reviews, and technical analysis activities.

  • Respond to technical inquiries, make technical recommendations, improve design tools, and develop design procedures.

  • Conduct studies to improve facilities safety, reliability, & economics, utilizing Colonial’s operating philosophies, design parameters, engineering standards, workflow processes, and recommended practices for design and analysis.

  • Review and approve electrical specifications, electrical design drawings, electrical testing procedures, technical analysis, for quality, accuracy, and completeness.

  • Monitor vendor equipment testing at the factory for Colonial acceptance at field locations.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university; will consider a combination of experience and/or education.

  • Ability to travel up to 40% of the time

  • Knowledge of the Liquid Petroleum Transportation Industry’s regulatory requirements.

  • Demonstrated knowledge in the utilization of accepted engineering theories and practices.

  • Ability to understand and analyze complex electrical issues including power systems up to the 230 kV range; Electrical Engineering Studies, including Short Circuit, Load Flow, Arc Fault Analysis, Power Factor correction and Protective Device Coordination.

  • Ideally, 10+ years Electrical Engineering in the Pipeline or Oil and Gas Industry.

  • Professional Engineering Certification (PE).
