Where the chemistry happens…

We are seeking a talented professional like you to serve as Research Technician in the Global Insecticide Research Group (APR/IE) at BASF's research facility in Research Triangle Park, NC.

In this role, you will join an interdisciplinary team focused on the discovery of novel, selective and safe insecticides. Specifically, you will be a member of the Screening + Advanced Testing Initial Characterization Team, focusing on biological performance of agrochemicals.

This position will primarily focus on the preparation of plants and compound solutions, handling of insects, evaluation of tests and laboratory maintenance. The candidate will need to observe and promote safe work practices and good housekeeping while performing the job duties. This role requires that you be willing to handle live insects and compounds of unknown toxicity. Weekend and holiday work, on a rotational basis, is required.

In your role as a Research Technician, you will

  • Prepare and handle insects and plants.

  • Prepare chemical solutions both by-hand and with an automated liquid handler.

  • Apply experimental compounds to plants/insects and infest plants and test vials with insects.

  • Evaluate tests and prepare and issue reports.

  • Maintain a clean work environment and observe and promote safe work practices while performing job duties.

If you...

  • Have a High School Diploma with 3+ years in a laboratory environment, or an AAS in Biology, Chemistry, or a related field.

  • Are able to follow protocols and perform them in a consistent and safe manner, and have initiative to optimize current protocols, develop more efficient workflows and suggest ways to operate more safely in the lab and offices.

  • Have unwavering commitment to workplace safety, demonstrating basic process safety knowledge received by completing required training of key safety critical areas of relevant processes and respective hazardous materials (hazard categories and related hazard potentials), as well as identify and assess risks in everyday operation.

  • Are available to occasionally work rotations on weekends or holidays.
