Overview

UIC Municipal Services, LLC is a commercial enterprise that is wholly owned by Ukpeagvik Inupiat Corporation (UIC). Its primary function is to oversee and manage several of its commercial subsidiary companies that operate in Alaska. UIC Municipal Services, LLC also provides professional and technical resources to assist UIC Municipal Services in its fiduciary responsibility overseeing and managing the land and natural resources for its parent corporation. Support UIC incident free safety culture and assume personal accountability and responsibility for the safe performance of the job, both for personal safety and that of fellow workers. This includes the proper use of PPE, safety equipment, and adhering to safe work practices. Take necessary actions to stop or correct unsafe behaviors or conditions and, if appropriate, report them to the site Supervisor. Become familiar with company policies, pertinent standards, work instructions or safe operating procedures. Maintain good attendance and actively participate with a positive attitude.

Summary:

Perform tasks involving physical labor at construction sites and/or facilities.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • May operate hand and power tools of all types: air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, small mechanical hoists, surveying and measuring equipment, and a variety of other equipment and instruments.

  • May clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, erect scaffolding, perform basic carpentry, layout and assist with installation of piling, install materials such as drywall, and clean up rubble, debris and other waste materials.

  • May assist and work under other craft workers and water and sewer plant operators.

  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Critical Skills/Expertise:

  • Must demonstrate the ability to perform all assigned duties in a proficient manner.

  • Must maintain consistent and punctual attendance.

  • Must be willing to work safely and follow all company policies.

  • Work independently with minimal supervision and complete assigned daily tasks.

  • Work well with in a team setting.

  • Proficient with all construction hand and power small tools.

  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in construction buildings, or other structures such as highways and roads.

  • Ability to perform duties and operation of tools of the trade in strict compliance with OSHA rules.

  • Ability to interact with both co-workers and clients in a courteous and professional manner.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • Confined Space training will be provided upon hire

  • Diphtheria Immunization prior to employment

  • Tetanus Immunization prior to employment

  • Hepatitis A vaccination with first dose prior to employment, second dose six months after

  • Hepatitis B vaccination with first dose prior to employment, second dose two months after the final dose six months after the first dose

  • Must have a punctual work history.

  • Must have a high school diploma or Equivalent

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to have good motion of range for body and limbs.

  • Be able to reach in all directions.

  • Handle and manipulate objects and material.

  • Coordinate the movement of eyes, hands, feet and fingers to complete assigned tasks.

  • Must have good balance while working on uneven surfaces and maneuvering obstacles.

  • Must be able to work in arctic conditions.

  • Must be able to follow directions.

  • Knowledge/awareness of safety issues.

Environmental Conditions:

  • May be working in extreme temperatures (cold and hot).

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and outside weather conditions.

  • The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and extreme heat.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.

  • The wearing of appropriate personal protective equipment mitigates risks associated with these conditions and is mandatory.

  • Work environment is that of a construction site.

  • May be working in close proximity to moving equipment.

  • May be working in close proximity to raw sewage.
