PAE is currently seeking a Plumber to support our Federal operations in Iraq. The Plumber position will be based at one of four PAE sites in Iraq and serve the Operations and Maintenance Support Services (OMSS) contract in support of the U.S. Department of State. The Plumber will repair and maintain plumbing by replacing washers, mending burst pipes, and opening clogged drains. He/She will maintain the pool equipment to include installing and repairing drainage systems and pipes. The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive.

The Plumber will:

  • Assemble, install and repair pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems according to specifications and plumbing codes

  • Study building plans and working drawings to determine required work tools and equipment, and sequence of installations

  • Inspect structure to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening the structure resulting from pipe installation

  • Locate and mark pipes and connection positions and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors using ruler, spirit level, and plumb bob

  • Use hand and power tools to cut openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings

  • Use pipe cutters, cutting torch and pipe-threading machine to cut and thread pipes

  • Use pipe bending machine to bend pipe to required angles

  • Assemble and install valves, pipe fittings, and pipes made from metals or non-metals

  • Join pipes using screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent, and caulks joints

  • Fill pipe system with water or air and reads pressure gauges to ensure system is not leaking

  • Install and repair plumbing fixtures, sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units, dishwashers, and water softeners

  • Repair and maintain plumbing by replacing washers, mending burst pipes, and opening clogged drains

  • May perform welding

  • Maintain pool equipment including sand filters, pumps and accessory equipment, chemical feed pumps, tubing and control system


  • 3 years’ experience as a Journeyman Plumber.

  • Previous overseas experience is highly desirable.

  • Must have a Plumber Vocational Diploma or completed an Apprentice program with a Journeyman Certificate.

  • Must be able to read, write, speak and comprehend English to a twelfth-grade level and read English building diagrams.

  • Must be able to perform physical labor and capable of lifting 50 lbs.

  • Requires a high school diploma (or GED) and a vocational diploma in carpentry or completion of an Apprentice program with a Journeyman certificate is required.

  • Must be able to speak English and read English Technical Manuals.

  • Requires favorable passage of a drug screen and physical examination.

  • US Citizenship is required.

  • Must currently possess or have the ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance and maintain eligibility at the required level for the duration of the contract.


This position may be located in a war zone, in an environment with harsh and dangerous working and living conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly be exposed to extreme and austere desert-like environment. Temperatures can reach 120- 130 degrees Fahrenheit/50-55 degrees Celsius during the summer months. Employees must be willing and able to perform regular job requirements in this austere, extreme environment, as well as willing and able to deploy to Iraq for extended periods. Work schedules are a minimum of 6 days per week and 10 hours per day, while some jobs have higher daily and weekly minimums. Employees must be willing and able to perform physical activities including, but not limited to, heavy lifting and moving of items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum; climbing in and out of equipment; crawling; and working outdoors. This includes being able to lift and carry 40 pounds of personal protective equipment for extended periods of time and being capable of running and ‘duck & cover’ during emergencies without putting oneself or others at risk.
