Preventive Maintenance Coordinator (Supervisor)

Summary: Supervises the preventive and corrective maintenance programs through management of department foremen and trades persons. Participate in goal-setting processes and strategic planning for mission support with other department leaders and FMC Management. Contribute to a safe working environment by coordinating employee trainings and identification and mitigation of environmental and job hazards. Maintain effective communications between departments and represent department as needed at operational meetings. Provide suggestions and recommendations for re-hiring, termination and advancement of staff. Routinely utilize Independent judgment and discretion to solve problems and identify potential issues. Highly skilled in all phases of industrial maintenance and/or commercial facilities maintenance.

GENERAL DUTIES (not all inclusive):

  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining a safe workplace program and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace

  • Complies with all ASC Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH), Waste Management and Quality Assurance requirements, goals, policies and procedures, providing documentation to these divisions as necessary.

  • Supervises the Trades Foremen and Trades staff

  • Maintains the Maximo Preventive Maintenance and Work Order program.

  • Plans and executes construction projects and maintenance work in Antarctica. Also responsible for supervising all construction personnel including superintendents, administrators, coordinators, field engineers, craft foremen, and craftspersons on various construction and maintenance projects.

  • Accomplishes project planning, scheduling, materials take-offs, and direct supervision of maintenance and construction projects/activities.

  • Keeps the Facilities and Engineering Manager & Facilities Maintenance Supervisor informed of status of construction projects, maintenance work, engineering investigations and other activities and assists in development of program plans and budgets.

  • Manages maintenance and construction activities, including the work centers, at locations in Antarctica, and construction projects following project plans and specifications, and project schedules.

  • Reports project progress in relation to project schedules, and updates schedules at required intervals. Reports maintenance progress in relation to required PM schedules against performance.

  • Identifies required design and specification changes prior to construction.

  • May be required to interact with the National Science Foundation on site representative, military and other agency officials, both over the telephone and in person, and must do so in a professional and tactful manner.

  • Handles confidential matters (personnel actions, management reports, etc.) in accordance with management policy.

  • Significant emphasis on the implementation and execution of a safe workplace program.

  • Communicates professionally, both orally and in writing, with their subordinates as needed to relay information they need in order to be successful in their jobs. This includes, but is not limited to, staff meetings, performance appraisals, job requirements, division metrics, projects, Quality Standard Procedures, and safety practices.

  • Employees and contractors may, in the course of performing their official duties, have access to a wide variety of personal identifiable and sensitive information (PII/SI) electronically and in hard copy. Personal and sensitive data including Social Security numbers, date and place of birth, demographic data, home addresses/telephone numbers/personal email addresses, passport numbers, bank account numbers, performance reviews, reviewer identity tied to performance reviews, unfunded proposals, proprietary parts of funded proposals, and other similar information should be protected according to Federal regulations and United States Antarctic Program policy, and only disclosed in accordance with the United States Antarctic program requirements.

  • Performs other duties as required.


  • BA/BS or equivalent work experience required.

  • Degree in Construction Management or related discipline preferred. Equivalent experience accepted in lieu of a degree.

  • Certification as a Project Management Professional by the Project Management Institute preferred.

  • A minimum of six years construction and maintenance experience including project scheduling and project cost estimating is required.

  • Three of the six years’ experience must be at the supervisor or manager level with a progressive increase in responsibility supervising craft foremen and craftspersons.

  • Ability to read design drawings, specifications, and diagrams is required.

  • Minimum intermediate computer skills in spreadsheets, word processing, e-mail and database programs are required.

  • Experience with Computer Maintenance Management Software (CMMS) is preferred.

  • Experience with PLC/DDC, VFD, HMI, automated building systems is preferred.

  • Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods is required.

  • Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum.

  • Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors.

  • Must successfully complete the physical, dental and psychological (if applicable) examinations as required by the NSF for deploying to Antarctica.

  • Must participate in community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts and safety objectives.

  • US citizenship or Permanent Resident is required.
