Los Alamos National Laboratory First-Principles Molecular Dynamics Simulations of Materials in Extreme Conditions Postdoc in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The Group of Condensed Matter and Complex Systems in the Theoretical Division of Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) has an immediate opening of postdoctoral position in first-principles simulations of materials under extreme conditions. The open position provide an opportunity to pursue electronic characterization, thermodynamics, optical, magnetic, and other emergent properties in novel and common space craft materials. The position will be focused on using molecular dynamics and first-principles many-body approaches to calculating the static and dynamical material properties. It will involve working closely with theorists and experimentalists on simulating materials under extreme conditions and developing more accurate modeling methods.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

The successful candidate must have strong computational skills, an excellent scientific record of publications, and a background in physics, chemistry, or materials science. Experience with calculations in first-principles-based density functional theory and/or molecular dynamics modeling is strongly preferred. The ability to work creatively and independently, as a part of a diverse team, is important. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential.

Education/Experience: Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, or Materials Science (completed within the last 5 years).

Desired Qualifications:

Experience with DFT methods and/or MD methods (e.g. VASP, Quantum Espresso, Abinit, WIEN2k, Gromacs, LAMMPS, etc.).

Salary: Competitive salaries are based on the date the PhD degree requirements were completed or the degree was awarded. Starting salary for a new graduate is currently $94,500. Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
