Maintenance Electrician


  • Install, maintains, troubleshoot, and repairs electrical systems and associated fixtures, controls and equipment 600 volts or less.

  • Determines and places distribution panels, boxes, fittings, and connections and installs wiring, couplings, conduit, relays, fixtures, transformers, and other electrical device.

  • In general, the work of the maintenance electrician requires rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.

  • Must have knowledge of electrical equipment, theory of instruments, technical practices, including troubleshooting and the ability to use electrical drawings.

  • Must be customer oriented.


  • Installing, modifying and testing electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, controls and equipment 600 volts or less, amperage, phase and frequency requirements.

  • Install, maintain, and repair all types of grounding systems and lighting protection systems.

  • Works from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals to plan and layout routing, placement, type, size gauge, balance, load, continuity, and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment, and controls.

  • Work on wide variety of equipment, including motors, motor control devices, speed control units, and automatic control equipment.

  • Install, connect, test, and maintain electrical systems for a variety of purposes, including climate control, security, and communications.

  • Install and maintain the electronic controls for machines in business and industry.

  • Pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits between boxes.

  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.

  • Join wires in boxes with various specially designed connectors.

  • Use testing equipment, such as ohmmeters, ammeters, meggers and voltmeters to check the circuits for proper connections, ensuring electrical compatibility and safety of components.

  • Perform preventive/recurring maintenance.

  • Periodically inspect equipment, and locate and correct problems before breakdowns occur.

  • Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.

  • Interprets and applies the National Electric Code, local codes, building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings, and uses trade formulas to calculate common properties. e.g. voltage drops, and current capacity in series and parallel circuits, resistance, inductance, capacitance, power factors, current flow, and temperature and length in single and multiple raceways, conduit, gut­ters and cable trays.

  • Makes necessary repairs as quickly as possible in order to minimize inconvenience.

  • Work with engineers, engineering technicians, or industrial machinery installation, repair, and maintenance workers.

  • Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, knives, and hacksaws, and other electrical hand tools.

  • Other assigned duties as needed to support the customer.


  • Should have a minimum of four (4) years of electrical experience and two (2) years of which industrial components were repaired and worked with low voltage. Journeyman Electrician License or higher required. Experience working in a Civil Engineering unit or equivalent military experience highly desirable.

  • Should have extensive, thorough knowledge of Air Force Base Operations and Civil Engineering. Must possess analytical abilities necessary to handle extremely complex administrative, organizational, and contract matters.

  • Must demonstrate communicative and organizational skills necessary to effectively work in site operations.

  • Must deal with the customer and company employees in a courteous, professional, and effective manner.

  • Must be able to qualify for a SECRET security clearance, if required.

  • Must have a basic knowledge of computers-able to input and extract data.


Physical Demands:

This classification's activities range from, an office environment with extensive sitting demands to a field environment with extensive climbing, standing, stooping, bending, pushing, kneeling, stretching, and walking demands. May occasionally be required to lift objects whose weight exceeds 70 pounds. Special vision abilities to perform this job are close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.

Work Environment:

The diversity of work conditions may range from an office environment where there is little or no physical discomfort to a flight line environment where inclement weather may subject the individual to severe changes in temperature, wind, rain, etc. May be required to work in areas where high noise hazards prevail. May be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and electrical shock hazards. May be required to work a flexible work schedule and alternating work days to meet mission and customer requirements.

  • Class B or higher CDL

  • Journeyman license
