Education:

High School Diploma or GED

Months/Years of Experience:

The Engineering Technician III has at least five (5) years of experience performing assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed, selects or adapts standard procedures or equipment, using fully applicable precedents, receives initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisor or engineer as needed, performs recurring work independently. Work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions.

Required Qualifications:

U.S. Citizen. Security Clearance.

Skills Needed:

Must have a valid driver's license.

Duties:

*Constructing components, subunits, or simple models or adapts standard equipment; may troubleshoot and correct malfunctions;

*Following specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment;

*Conducting various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurements, selecting, preparing, and operating standard test equipment and records test data;

*Extracting and compiling a variety of engineering data from field notes, manuals, lab reports, etc., processing data, identifying errors or inconsistencies, selecting methods of data presentation;

*Assisting in design modification by compiling data related to design, specifications, and materials that are pertinent to specific items of equipment or component parts;

*Developing information concerning previous operational failures and modifications, and using judgment and initiative to recognize inconsistencies or gaps in data and seek sources to clarify information.

Desired Qualifications:

Background in Watercraft (gasoline and/or diesel) maintenance and operations. Waterman with Trade Skills experience.

Comments:

Compliance with health mandates as dictated by the contract may be required as a condition of employment.

This job is in support of a dynamic test environment. Most of the work is in support of the Department of Defense ensuring that the equipment and systems being tested meet or exceed requirements, assuring that our nation's warfighters have the best possible capabilities. The test area is on or adjoining the Scenic Potomac River.

Tell me what a normal workday is like? List task.

Workdays are typically 8 hours M-F from 7am through 3pm, but may be shifted or expanded to satisfy Range testing schedules. Occasional overtime is required to meet Range test preparation and operations demands. Some travel may be required.

Typical tasks include:

*Maintenance and operation of a variety of watercraft (gasoline and diesel) and their associated systems

*Building, positioning, anchoring, and setting of custom targets

*Test data gathering and analysis

*Operating material handling equipment

*Preparation of equipment for testing

*Operating simple machine and hand tool equipment

*Building custom structures and crates

Additional opportunities for working in several functional areas ranging from Main Range operations, Ordnance Handling operations, and Experimental Explosive Area testing operations.
