The Automotive Mechanic will be based at one of four PAE sites in Iraq and serve the Operations and Maintenance Support Services (OMSS) contract in support of the U.S. Department of State.
The selected candidate will be responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing motor vehicles. This position reports to the Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor. The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive.
Installing various automotive systems, testing systems for proper functioning, performing emergency repairs, maintaining tools, ordering supplies, and making routine adjustments to maximize operational efficiency.
May also record data when inspecting systems, such as temperature of equipment, fuel consumption and hours of operation.
Places fan belt on pulleys, adjusts tension, and tightens bolts.
Bolts evaporator unit under dashboard or in trunk.
Welds or bolts mounting brackets to automobile frame.
Drills holes through interior panels, threads hoses through holes and connects hoses to compressor, evaporator, and cool-air outlet.
Fills compressor with refrigerant and starts unit.
Measures compressor pressure to determine efficiency of compressor, using gauge.
Listens to operating unit for indications of malfunction.
Removes faulty units from vehicles, disassembles them, and replaces worn and broken parts and fluid in unit.
Able to operate A/C service machines desirable.
Makes electrical connections as required.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Able to carry out automotive repairs independently.
Knowledge about the theory and design of air conditioning, heating, refrigeration and ventilation systems.
Must have five years Automotive Maintenance experience.
Minimum Acceptable Experience Level: Must have a minimum of one year experience in an Outside the Continental United States (OCONUS) environment.
Education: A high school diploma or educational equivalent is required. Completion of a four or five year Automotive Apprenticeship program with a Journeyman Certificate.
Security Vetting: Already possess a Secret/TS clearance or be able to obtain clearance required for the position. Must maintain eligibility at the required security level for the duration of the contract.
Language Skills: Strong, professional, oral and written English communication skills
Citizenship: US Citizenship is required.
Medical: Favorable passage of a drug screen and physical examination
Relevant overseas contract experience.
Previous Automotive Maintenance experience in harsh environmental conditions is a plus.
Experience working with PAE.

Knowledge of ALL principles and processes involved in supporting Automotive Repair functions.
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing excellent customer services.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that requires handling multiple tasks at a given time and rapidly adapting to changing priorities and schedules.
Cross-cultural sensitivity with an international perspective.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Expert computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Expert communication skills to facilitate and disseminate information.
WORKING AND LIVING CONDITIONS:
This position is located in an environment with harsh and dangerous working and living conditions. The employee may regularly be exposed to extreme and austere desert-like environment. Temperatures can reach 120- 130 degrees Fahrenheit/50-55 degrees Celsius during the summer months. Work schedules are a minimum of 6 days per week and 10 hours per day, while some jobs have higher daily and weekly minimums. Employees must be willing and able to perform physical activities including, but not limited to, lift and carry 40 pounds of personal protective equipment for extended periods of time and being capable of running and ‘duck & cover’ during emergencies without putting oneself or others at risk.
