Head Lifeguard

The City of Idaho Falls is currently accepting applications for the position of Head Lifeguard. This position assures safety of

all pool participants. Ensures the pool area is clean as well as the guardroom and office and surrounding areas. Coordinates

all lifeguards working during the same shift. Acts as manager in absence of management.

This position requires 20 to 30 hours per week; shifts will vary. This is a Temporary position.

Works under the general guidance and direction of the Aquatics Supervisor, Specialist, or Manager.

Essential Functions

Helps prepare lifeguards and pool for each shift Makes sure adequate coverage is provided at all times Makes decisions that will affect other lifeguards. Cleans and maintains the pool area, office, guardroom, deck, locker rooms, and surrounding areas. Attends staff meetings with the aquatic manager and other management team members as requested. Knows and enforces emergency procedures and safety regulations in order to ensure participant safety. Assists management in maintaining chemical balance, cleanliness and documentation of chemical use. Knows and enforces all rules of sanitation and care of the pool as required by State Law. Recommends disciplinary measures of disorderly individuals; prepares incident reports and if necessary refers them to the manager. Communicates with patrons and participants; providing Aquatics information and schedules in a positive and friendly manner. Identifies potential hazards around the facility that may be dangerous and corrects them or reports to the manager to ensure patron and staff safety. Understands and adheres to Aquatic Center policy and procedures manual as evidenced by signature of familiarization for the file. Lifeguard, Teaches, Coaches, Cashier, and cleans as needed. Assists with the management of lifeguard work schedules. Assists with the implementation and instruction of in-service training programs. Assists with the implementation of an employee recognition and motivation program.

Assists with the personnel evaluations for all aquatic staff. Maintains and submits all necessary reports and forms in a timely manner. Adheres to a schedule as agreed by the employee and immediate supervisor. Other duties as may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

Must be 18 years or older High School Diploma or a general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. High maturity level and proven record of responsibility.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Fully competent in all aspects of water safety and emergency rescue techniques Language Ability must be able to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organizations. Math Ability Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Computer Skil s Basic word processing skills along with knowledge of Microsoft Publisher and Excel. Current valid Idaho Drivers License

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Certifications

Current Lifeguard Certification Current CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification Current Community First Aid Certification Current AED Certification Current Oxygen Administration Certification Idaho Pool Operators Certification Current Water Safety Instructor Certification

If no certifications are available, they must be obtained in 30 days or less.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT Lifesaving and rescue equipment

Final candidate is subject to a background check contingent for employment.
