Summary

The Fire Chief is responsible for the entire fire department and performs as the designated Site Manager by ensuring Fire Protection, Emergency Management & Emergency Medical Services requirements are achieved at the Diego Garcia Navy Support Facility. The Fire Chief is responsible for exercising leadership, maintaining high morale, and directing and inspecting the performance of personnel assigned to their site. The Fire Chief will establish and maintain policies and procedures, provide direction, delegate duties and responsibilities, and ensure his/her selected staff manage their assignments effectively.

This position is contingent upon contract award.

Responsibilities

What You'll Get To Do:

  • Represent and act on behalf of the Chenega. Synchronize and coordinate intra-department support.

  • Interface with external agencies/entities when directed by the prime contractor’s management staff.

  • Oversee the development and implementation of fire department programs to maintain high standards of preparedness to fulfill the requirements with maximum effectiveness.

  • Receive budget information from subordinate supervisory personnel and prepares departmental budget estimates and projected capital expenditures as required.

  • Prepare reports to the internal and external stakeholders summarizing departmental activities and status.

  • Assign fire department personnel, organizes, and directs work, communicates performance standards and safety regulations, monitors activities, evaluates performance and recommends the need for change.

  • Maintain open lines of communication with subordinate supervisors regarding activities within their area of responsibility.

  • Develop, maintains, and enforces departmental policies and standard operating procedures.

  • Professionally interface with the prime, customer, and other contractors as necessary.

Qualifications

You'll Bring These Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Fire Science, Fire Training, or related field and eight (8) years’ experience in fire operations and management.

  • Honorably discharged from the Armed Services (If Applicable)

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and meet the requirement to operate emergency vehicles per local requirements.

  • Must speak, read, write, and understand the English language, and apply written rules, detailed orders, instructions, and training material.

  • Pro-Board and/or IFSAC Firefighter II.

  • Pro-Board and/or IFSAC Airport Firefighter.

  • Pro-Board and/or IFSAC Fire Instructor II.

  • Pro-Board and/or IFSAC Fire Inspector II.

  • Pro-Board and/or IFSAC Fire Officer IV.

  • Pro-Board and/or IFSAC Hazardous Materials Incident Commander.

  • NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700 and 800.
