Ford Motor Company Component and Raw Material Supply Chain Buyer in Essex, United Kingdom

To support our incredible plans for the future of mobility within Ford Motor Company, there are exciting opportunities for experienced Buyers within our Multi-energy platform Powertrain Purchasing team.

As a Buyer, you will be the face of Purchasing to both external and internal stakeholders within the wider Ford organisation. You will provide the material supply security necessary to deliver Ford’s multi-energy Powertrain business plan in Europe. Drive Engineering Matched Pair support to ensure execution of quality supply, strategic sourcing, cost opportunities.

Prioritizing components and materials are essential across our multi-energy Powertrains that support the great products we deliver to our customers. Tier 1 and Tier n components and Raw materials contribute most value, therefore delivering a capable supply base that has sufficient capacity, is cost competitive, and ESG compliant is a key priority.

Procurement Strategy Execution and Partnership Development:

  • Develop and execute sourcing strategy for Tier 1 & Tier n component and Raw materials delivering a balanced portfolio.

  • Understand EU regulatory framework and implications related to Automotive industry and deliver strategies that ensure compliance within component and Raw materials within value chain.

  • Understand the requirements to deliver ESG (Environment, Social and Government) for component and Raw material sourcing within the European market.

  • Lead business case development and strategy execution and be the PoV owner to report out to senior leadership.

  • Define cost-effective tier-n processing routes in collaboration with Tier 1 supplier to define integration opportunities within the supply chain.

  • Understand material industry and asset specific cost curves, flowsheets and capacity.

  • Manage relationships with existing and future suppliers.

Ethical / Sustainable Value Chain (ESG):

  • Work with Product Development, Legal and Government Affairs, to establish specifications and performance targets that meet all regulatory requirements.

  • Interface with Ford Sustainability Group to ensure ethical sourcing practices are reflected in Ford’s supply chain.

  • Coordinate in-depth supplier audit discussions and lead supplier adherence to incorporate audit findings / corrective actions as required.

  • Map existing and develop future state value chain maps and identify localization opportunities throughout the material value chain.

Capacity and Cost Management:

  • Investigate asset specific capacities and annual output capability.

  • Lead term sheet (RFQ/RFI) negotiations for material supply.

  • Analyse market supply/demand balances and deficit risks.

  • Interface with Price Reporting Agencies, establish relationships with industry analysts to track market pricing and study its impact to Ford’s costs / program financials.

  • Monitor market developments and its impact to Ford’s Supply Chain strategy.

  • Partner with our finance team and controller’s office to update forecast material pricing guidance based on 3rd party data.

  • Liaise and support consulting engagements as necessary to support Ford’s business objectives.

Internal Voice:

  • Purchasing representation at key internal stakeholder meetings, being the voice of the Purchasing team and the supplybase implications.

  • Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with Joint Venture partners and cross functional internal partners and customers.

  • Support additional ‘Special Projects’ as required.

To excel in the role, you will need:

  • Demonstrable understanding of current challenges facing the automotive industry in the ICE to BEV transition and the role of Purchasing to support the business.

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience within raw material value chain, preferably with a commercial focus.

  • Strong technical understanding of the materials & processes within the value chain to support our Multi-Energy Powertrain line-up.

  • Strong business acumen and excellent written and verbal abilities.

  • Proven experience in negotiating with both external Suppliers and internal Customers.

  • Proven experience of presenting to Senior Management.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with Internal and External Partners / Suppliers.

  • Ability to work in a team, experience of working in cross functional teams is beneficial.

  • Self-starter with a ‘can-do’ attituded and able to work independently with little management support.

  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills.

  • Proven ability to manage delivery to fixed deadlines and manage multiple deliverables simultaneously.

  • Process driven, able to produce high quality and accurate work.

  • Fully competent with Microsoft Office Tools.

  • An ability to travel on company business as required.

  • Education is important to us; ideally, you’ll have a Degree or equivalent in hand, but if that’s not the case (and you have experience/ skills you feel are relevant and beneficial to the role) we’re interested to hear from you.

The ‘nice to haves’:

We don’t expect candidates to have all of these but please mention the ones that you do:

  • Multi-lingual skills to support global business, preferred language Korean and Chinese, please state specific language skills.

  • Experience in using procurement software.

  • Experience of Best Cost efficiency tools would be desirable.
