Job Summary:

The Engineering Technician III performs assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed, selects or adapts standard procedures or equipment, using fully applicable precedents, receives initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisor or engineer as needed, performs recurring work independently. Work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions.

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:

  • Constructs components, subunits, simple models or adapts standard equipment; may troubleshoot and correct malfunctions.

  • Follows specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment.

  • Conducts various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement, selecting, preparing, and operating standard test equipment and records test data.

  • Extracts and compiles a variety of engineering data from field notes, manuals, lab reports, etc., processing data, identifying errors or inconsistencies, selecting methods of data presentation.

  • Assists in design modification by compiling data related to design, specifications, and materials that are pertinent to specific items of equipment or component parts; develops information concerning previous operational failures and modifications and uses judgment and initiative to recognize inconsistencies or gaps in data and seeks sources to clarify information.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years of full-time professional experience as an Engineering Technician, performing the following skills: Welding (mig, tig, stick, and gas) or machine operation (lathes and mills), sheet metal fabrication, interpreting models and drawing packages, recommend, order, receive, and process materials and tooling for specific jobs, advanced in machinery and welding fixture operations.

  • Full knowledge CAD/CAM software such as SolidWorks and CAMWorks, advanced CNC programming experience with little to no supervision, proficient in creating drawings from engineering design models, performs more complex drafting and design calculations with review from Tech IV or V, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing concepts understood.
