The Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Fueler performs the full range of repair and modification work on heavy equipment and military vehicles to include but not limited to commercial, non-tactical, tactical and tracked vehicles, passenger cars, trucks, forklift trucks, warehouse tractors, large missile carrying tanks, tank retrievers, tanks, multi-wheel drive vehicles with standard or automatic transmissions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all maintenance actions in accordance with AR 750-1, Army Materiel Maintenance Policy, and conducted in accordance with The Army Maintenance Management System (TAMMS) as outlined in DA PAM 750-8, DA PAM 750-1, AR 710-2, DA PAM 710-2-2, applicable LIS publications, other Governmental regulations and directives as applicable, installation policies and procedures, and accepted industry standards for the safe and efficient operation of equipment repair and supporting functions.

  • Responsible for refueling various vehicles and equipment, Locomotives, forklifts and light towers. They ensure that the vehicles and equipment have the necessary fuel to operate efficiently and safely.

  • Operating fueling equipment, such as fuel trucks, pumps, and hoses.

  • Checking and recording fuel levels of vehicles and equipment before and after refueling.

  • Inspecting and maintaining fueling equipment, tanks, and fuel storage areas.

  • Test, inspect, repair, service, maintain, transport, and process/de-process commercial or tactical equipment.

  • Perform PMCS in accordance with TM 10/20-series manuals and Lubrication Orders (LO) to include all before, during, and after checks.

  • Perform welding and minor body repair.

  • Perform a complete engine diagnosis on all engine systems and components.

  • Replace and adjust tracks, road wheels, road wheel bearings, idler wheels, idler bearings, and oil seals; replaces suspension arms, torsion bars, and stabilizer bars.

  • Repair braking systems by repairing hydraulic systems, including master cylinders.

  • Repair and adjust power and mechanical steering systems as required.

  • Determine nature and extent of repairs required and performs major and minor repair on engines, power transmissions, transfers and related electrical, fuel, hydraulic, wheel, and engine assemblies.

  • Use technical manuals and other publications to identify and order repair parts.

  • Operate and inspect machines or equipment to diagnose defects.

  • Dismantle and reassemble equipment using hoists and hand tools.

  • Examine parts for damage or excessive wear, using testing equipment such as compression testers, motor analyzers, test meters, micrometers and gauges.

  • Test overhauled equipment to ensure operating efficiency

  • May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty including nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School graduate or equivalent

  • Military or civilian training in heavy equipment maintenance.

  • Minimum two (2) years experience as a heavy equipment mechanic, helper, or apprentice.

  • Possess and maintain a current California Driver’s License.

  • Class A or B CDL required with Hazmat and tanker Endorsement.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience on military equipment preferred.

  • Understanding of different types of fuel, safety procedures, and fueling equipment.

  • Have a full understanding of two- and four-cycle engine operation.

  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of all engine systems.

  • Ability to pass a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) for computer access

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

Estimated Salary/Wage

Up to USD $37.29/Hr.
