Sinclair Broadcast Group Operations Manager in Charleston, West Virginia

WCHS/WVAH are seeking a News Operations Manager to be a leader who can manage technical content center operations and can inspire excellence from the staff.

As the News Operations Manager, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the day-to-day technical operations of our newsroom. You'll be responsible for coordinating with producers, reporters, editors, and technical staff to ensure the seamless execution of our news broadcasts across multiple platforms. From managing logistics to implementing best practices, you'll be instrumental in driving the success of our news operations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate and prioritize news coverage to meet deadlines and audience demands.

  • Daily management of editing, media management, and archiving systems.

  • Oversee staffing schedules and assignments to optimize efficiency and productivity.

  • Collaborate with editorial teams to develop compelling story ideas and coverage plans.

  • Manage newsroom resources, including equipment, facilities, and budgets.

  • Implement and enforce broadcast standards and practices, including FCC regulations and journalistic ethics.

  • Working with our digital team on digital-specific content, especially on exclusive stories/stories requiring high-level editing.

  • Maintaining Station’s fleet of vehicles including DOT compliance where applicable.

  • Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the newsroom.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Knowledge and experience with television news photography

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field.

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire teams.

  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficiency with newsroom systems and technology.

  • Knowledge of broadcast equipment and production techniques.

  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

  • Technical knowledge of SAT vehicles, ENG vehicles, LIVE U and AVID editing

  • The ability to independently gather material and meet news deadlines

  • The ability to work with Reporters and Multimedia Journalists to gather material and meet news deadlines

  • Must have at least three years of television news photography and non-linear editing experience

  • Must be professional, organized, and highly motivated

  • Must have or be able to obtain a WV driver’s license within 30 days of employment and maintain a good driving record

  • Must be able to lift and carry between 25 and 50 pounds on a regular basis
