JOB SUMMARY

The Director, Communications + Change Management, is a key member of a cross-discipline Sustainability team, which is part of the Global Operations (GO) department, known for taking ideas into implementation across all brands, disciplines, and continents. This role will report to the Senior Director, Communications, Global Operations. The role is primarily responsible for leading planning and execution of the communication and change management activities for global stakeholders to achieve various sustainability targets, including a heavy focus on the company’s multi-year effort to transform and embed sustainability practices and processes across Marriot’s properties, operations, and supply chain. The Director, Communications + Change Management, Sustainability will play a key role in shaping and advising the global communications strategy based on their knowledge of the broader company strategy for Sustainability.

This role will build upon existing change management and communications activities. The Director will partner closely with colleagues across the sustainability team, Global Operations, continent teams, Global Communications and Public Affairs, and more. Success in this role requires strong critical thinking skills, attention to detail, comfort with ambiguity, a proven ability to manage multiple work efforts at the same time, as well as a willingness to be tested on difficult and time-sensitive requests.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Experience and Education

Required

• 4-year degree from an accredited university in Business Administration, Communications, or other related area

• 8+ years of relevant professional experience (change management learning, stakeholder engagement, communications or deployment strongly preferred), demonstrating progressive career growth and pattern of exceptional performance

• Experience with large-scale business transformation

• Subject matter expertise and passion for sustainability

• Outstanding formal and informal presentation skills.

• Basic project management skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint applications

• Masters Degree

• Strong personal leadership, organizational, relationship-building, and negotiation skills.

• Self-starter with self-confidence, enthusiasm, and strong customer service orientation.

• Demonstrated ability to deliver results under difficult conditions, particularly when faced with complexity and ambiguity.

• Experience working in or on behalf of (i.e., consulting) a large-scale, global enterprise strongly preferred

• Ability to juggle multiple projects and many stakeholders

• Ability to complete deliverables with high quality and up to established standards

• Ability to be detailed oriented, while maintaining alignment with broader organization objectives

• Prosci or other change management certification

CORE WORK ACTIVITIES

Stakeholder Engagement Plan and Execution

• Develop a comprehensive stakeholder engagement plan in partnership with sustainability leads, CLS leaders, and the Global Communications team and acts as the key connector between these areas.

• Drive the execution of the plan and influence key stakeholders with adoption of sustainability communications strategy.

• Provide consultation to key senior leaders and business partners on the creation and execution of initiatives.

Communications and reputation management

• Synthesize distinct programs, projects, and points of view into a compelling company-wide sustainability narrative.

• Identify, assess, and influence action on business and reputational opportunities and risks

• Conduct research and provide calculated recommendations to improve understanding, responsiveness, and clarity of communications.

• Partners to develop the change management plans for hotels, associates, and owners.

• Drives engagement of continent subject matter experts during change impact assessments.

• Partners to execute the plan and related deliverables to drive the required behavior change and shift to desired behavior.

• Responsible for partnering with Senior Leaders across Global Operations, Brands, and Continent teams to create and execute plan.

• Identifies and mitigates communication risks, manages escalations, resolves communication issues, and facilitates cross-group discussions for efficient program communications.

• Develops deep understanding of audiences to write, edit, and review communications that will resonate

• Provide change management support for the execution of all change management efforts for sustainably across GO for business transformation and improvement efforts.

• Provide content owners with appropriate strategic direction to maximize the effectiveness of their presentations, newsletters, and other communication vehicles supporting sustainability.

Recognition Plan

• Leads execution of the recognition plan for highlighting quick wins along the journey. The plan may include gamification, celebratory events, competitions, awards, and/or new supporting tools.
