Worcester Eisenbrandt Construction Master Carpenter in Baltimore, Maryland

Position Summary:

Restoration Master Carpenters are involved in many different kinds of construction  in the shop and on construction sites. They cut, shape  and assemble wood, fiber glass,  plastic  and other materials for restoration of historic buildings and many other structures. Carpenters are involved in many activities from form work in the footing and foundation to wall and commercial framing, setting windows and doors, or completing the interior trim out. These are just a sampling of the many and/or variety of activities required by a carpenter.

General Information about the job:

  • Take the measurements and draw a diagram of what is to be built.

  • Advise on particular types of wood or nails that would work best for a job, based on the kind of project being done.

  • Identify the worst problems with existing structures in need of repair.

  • Determine which materials are needed for projects by studying blueprints and drawings carefully before beginning construction jobs around your home or business premises.

  • Calculate how much lumber will be required for each specific building project you’re working on so there aren’t any issues later when it comes time to build something out of wood.       

  • Plan where wall studs should go into wall surfaces before drilling them into place throughout the construction project.

  • Inspect the worksite and assess potential safety hazards before starting any job.

  • Maintain a clean and safe work site at all times to avoid accidents or injuries from occurring.

  • Stain grade trim work, hanging doors, drill and set hardware, set windows, lay out stairs

  • Must be able to read, understand and interpret blueprints.

  • Must have mathematical and analytical skills necessary to do material estimates.

  • Able to perform take offs

  • Work with a variety of powered and un-powered hand tools.

  • Set-up and operation of shop machinery including:

  • Table saws

  • Jointers

  • Planers

  • Shapers

  • Radial Arm Saws

  • Mortisers

  • Tenoners

  • Fabrication of architectural details including:

  • Moldings

  • Door

  • Windows

  • Carvings

  • Fabrication of cabinetry and casework

  • Knowledge and experience of spray application of paint and clear finishes is a plus

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be organized and  timely,

  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment and the ability to meet deadlines.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Able to read, speak and write English.

  • Strong work ethics of integrity and honesty.

  • A cooperative attitude is necessary to get the job done.

Physical Requirements:

  • Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, positioning, handling of materials and manipulating items.

  • Hearing: Used for those activities that require ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to discern between sounds in the equipment.

  • Eyesight: the job includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. With or without corrective lenses.

  • Able to wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and hard hats and respirators when needed.

  • The ability to lift 50 pounds.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of  two (2) to five (5) years of Carpentry experience.

  • Must have own basic carpenters tools.

  • Experience working on historic restoration is helpful.

  • Able to speak, and to read and write Basic English.

  • Ability to work overtime when needed.
