Job Description

The selected candidate will be responsible for masonry requirements on small construction, remodeling or renovation projects. The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive.

The Concrete and Masonry Specialist will:

  • Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.

  • Comply with all Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements and goals. Provide information and materials to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legal documentation.

  • Repair, maintain and alters buildings, retaining walls and other brick or stone edifices.

  • Mix mortar; lay bricks and stones and/or concrete sidewalks.

  • Make and repair steps.

  • Match and/or replace brick or stonework chimneys.

  • Install and repair tile floors and/or walls.

  • Plaster ceilings and/or walls.

  • Handle carpentry work incidental to masonry work.

Be proficient with concrete masonry and finishing, to include:

  • Smoothing and finishing surfaces of poured concrete floors, walls, sidewalks, or curbs to specified textures.

  • Using hand tools or power tools, including floats, trowels, and screeds, directing and operating a concrete truck.

  • Spreading concrete into inaccessible sections of forms, using rake or shovel.

  • Leveling concrete to specified depth and workable consistency.

  • Finishing concrete surfaces, using power trowel, or wets and rubs concrete with abrasive stone to impart finish.

  • Removing rough or defective spots from concrete surfaces.

  • Molding expansion joints and edges, using edging tools, jointers, and straightedge.

  • Potentially specialize in finishing steps and stairways and be designated Step Finisher (construction).

  • Potentially break up and repair old concrete surfaces, using pneumatic tools.

  • Potentially produce colored or textured finishes by adding colored stone chips, powdered steel, or coloring powder on concrete to produce prescribed finish.

In addition the candidate may be required to:

  • Perform mathematical calculations associated with concrete pours, sizing of rebar and installation of rebar.

  • Perform inspections and prepares written reports.

  • Maintain effective, timely and respectful communication and interaction with other employees, manager, and supports other organizations

  • Performs other administrative tasks when directed, including material ordering, inventory, work scheduling and other administrative report preparation.

  • Must be able to take initiative to analyze a situation and to make frequent technical decisions based on specifications, safety and schedule.

  • Assists other trade personnel as required.

  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

  • Transports various items to job site.

  • Works under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods.


  • Requires a minimum of two years compatible masonry and concrete experience.

  • Must have good organizational skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions.

  • Experience performing masonry projects using a variety of materials (e.g., bricks, cobblestones, concrete blocks, concrete forms, and gravel roadways) on various surfaces surfaces (e.g., dirt, sand, concrete, asphalt, etc.) is required.

  • Must have knowledge and ability to perform mathematical equations associated with concrete pours, sizing of rebar, installation of rebar, form setting techniques, fabrication of forms, pouring of concrete slabs and walls, finish work on concrete slabs, etc.

  • Requires knowledge and experience regarding the occupational hazards of the concrete trade, related safety precautions and the skills required directing heavy equipment as well as using power equipment in the concrete trade.

  • Experience in reading and interpreting architectural and engineering (A&E) design drawings in English language is required.

  • Requires the ability to read and interpret blueprints, plan excavations; PSI ratings for specific concrete pours.

  • Knowledge of applicable US Codes and acceptable trade practices is required.

  • Must have the ability to lift over 50 pounds (23kg.).


  • Previous concrete work experience in an OCONUS environment with a multi-national workforce.

  • Relevant overseas contract experience.

  • Experience working with PAE.

  • Experience working with SOW, shop drawings and blueprints.

  • Driving license from home country or ability to get PAE permit in-country.

  • Documented experience using equipment such as forklift or “skid-steer” loader such as a Bobcat.


  • Knowledge of all principles and processes involved in operating and supporting Concrete/Masonry functions at an overseas facility.

  • Experience providing excellent customer service.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that requires handling multiple tasks at a given time and rapidly adapting to changing priorities and schedules.

  • Cross-cultural sensitivity with an international perspective.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Above average computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Ability to become an active and functioning member of a team.

  • Must have the ability to be innovative and be an agent for change.

  • Expert communication skills to facilitate and disseminate information.


  • Education: A high school diploma (or equivalent). A vocational diploma in masonry or completion of an Apprentice program with a Journeyman certificate is preferred.

  • Language Skills: Strong, professional, oral and written English communication skills.

  • Medical: Favorable passage of a drug screen and physical examination.

  • Citizenship: US Citizenship is required for this position.

  • Security Vetting: Ability to obtain a secret security clearance and maintain eligibility at the required certification level for the duration of the contract.


  • Willingness and ability to deploy to Iraq for extended periods is required. Position may be located in a war zone in an environment with harsh and dangerous working and living conditions.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly be exposed to extreme and austere desert-like environment - temperatures can reach 120- 130 degrees Fahrenheit/50-55 degrees Celsius during the summer months. Must be willing and able to perform regular job requirements in this austere and extreme environment.

  • Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including but not limited to heavy lifting and moving of items, parts, assemblies and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum; climbing in and out of equipment; crawling; and working outdoors. This includes being able to lift and carry 40 pounds of personal protective equipment for extended periods of time; and being capable of running and ‘duck & cover’ during emergencies without putting oneself or others at risk.

  • Must successfully complete and pass the medical and dental examinations as required by PAE and our customer for deployment to Iraq. Must maintain physical and dental requirements for duration of deployment.

  • Must be able to work a minimum of 6 days per week and 10 hours per day, some jobs have higher daily and weekly minimums.

  • Must possess satisfactory English proficiency to meet job requirements and to adhere and comply with safety, health and security measures.
