Department Information

The Colorado Department of Military & Veterans Affairs (DMVA) has four major operational divisions: Army National Guard, Air National Guard, Civil Air Patrol, and Veterans Affairs. Description of Job

This position is a part of the Air National Guard branch located at Buckley Air Force Base, reports to an Electrical Trades III, and works within the Electrical division to install, alter, maintain, and repair electrical systems both over and under 600 volts at Buckley Air Force Base and some remote sites to include Greeley and Ft. Carson. This position works ten (10) hour days, four days per week between Monday through Friday. This is a weather-essential position and will be required to report outside of normal shift hours when weather or events occur. Specific duties for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • installing, troubleshooting, designing, modifying, altering, repairing, and estimating medium voltage electrical apparatus controls and equipment for light, heat, power, and other purposes;

  • performing electrical maintenance on several electrical systems;

  • setting up and operating proper test equipment to evaluate, monitor, and repair electrical systems;

  • installing, troubleshooting, and repairing of air field lighting and control systems;

  • reading and interpreting National Electric Code, United Facility Code, technical orders, diagrams, schematics, FAA regulations, and building plans for correct design, installation, and modification;

  • completing electronic forms for material ordering, time accounting, work orders, ect.;

  • operating, reviewing, and recording information to ensure the effective operation of electrical equipment using computerized resources;

  • performing and practicing all safety requirements, reporting safety violations of others, and ensuring tools and equipment are checked and comply with proper working order daily; and

  • assisting other trades with work orders and snow removal when required.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two years of experience at the level of Electrical Trades I or assisting a licensed electrician in the installation, alteration, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems. This includes working as an apprentice.

  • Must be able to use a two-way radio.

  • Must be able to utilize computerized equipment for a variety of duties.

Necessary Special Requirements

  • Possession of a current journey or master electrician license issued by the State of Colorado. Please attach evidence of your licensure to your on-line application.

  • Possession of a current valid State of Colorado driver's license. (Please notate your license number on your on-line application.)

  • Must be willing to work in confined spaces, with medium and high voltage, at remote work sites, and in heights reaching up to 75 feet high.

  • Must posses a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

Preferred

Preference will be given to candidates who:

  • meet the qualification AND

  • have a Class B CDL or is able to gain this licensure within one year AND

  • have a working knowledge of air field lighting systems and controls.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must pass a background check prior to employment.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance within the first nine months of employment.

  • Must be willing to be on-call and return to work-site after hours as needed.

  • Must submit to random drug and alcohol testing throughout employment.
