Home Depot Principal Software Engineer, Enterprise Architecture (Remote) in Atlanta, Georgia

Position Purpose:

The EA Principal Initiative Delivery and Strategic Alignment Focus role entails strategically aligning business objectives with IT capabilities to drive organizational growth and efficiency. The engineering process is highly collaborative. In addition to pairing, Software Engineer Principals field questions from other product teams and encourage cross-team collaboration.

They also play an active role in working with 3rd party vendors as well as the open-source community. Software Engineer Principals create foundational code elements that can be reused as well as architectural diagrams and other product-related documentation. They also define service-level objectives for products. In addition, Software Engineer Principals may be involved in product configuration, performance tuning, and testing as well as production monitoring.

As a Software Engineer Principal, you will be an extremely knowledgeable Engineer on the product team and are expected to build and grow the skillsets of the more junior engineers. There is also an expectation that the Software Engineer Principal will demonstrate expertise around modern software design and development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Business Architecture : Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of the organization's business processes, capabilities, and goals. Create and communicate business architecture models and frameworks that guide decision-making and inform technology investments.

  • System Landscape : Evaluate and design the organization's IT infrastructure, applications, and platforms to ensure they support current and future business needs. Define and maintain the system landscape blueprint, considering factors such as scalability, interoperability, and security.

  • Impact Analysis : Assess the impact of proposed changes to business processes, systems, and technologies. Conduct thorough analysis to identify dependencies, risks, and opportunities, and provide recommendations for mitigating risks and maximizing benefits.

  • Process Improvement : Identify opportunities for optimizing business processes and workflows to enhance efficiency, agility, and customer satisfaction. Lead cross-functional teams to analyze, redesign, and implement process improvements.

Direct Manager/Direct Reports:

  • Typically reports to the Software Engineer Manager or Sr. Manager, Technology Director or Sr. Director.

Travel Requirements:

  • Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

Physical Requirements:

  • Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

Working Conditions:

  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be eighteen years of age or older.

  • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

  • Mastery of an object oriented programming language (preferably Java)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 6-8 years of relevant work experience

  • Comprehensive Business Insight: Profound understanding of business operations, strategies, and goals, facilitating informed decision-making processes and guiding effective discovery of solutions, with a particular emphasis on impact analysis. Generic Frameworks or Kotsusev Framework : Proficiency in generic enterprise architecture frameworks or specific frameworks like the Kotsusev Framework, and experience in applying them to drive business transformation initiatives.

  • Technical Proficiency : Familiarity with a wide range of IT technologies, including enterprise applications, databases, cloud computing, and integration technologies.

  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills : Strong analytical mindset with the ability to analyze complex problems, identify root causes, and develop practical solutions. Experience in conducting impact assessments and risk analysis.

  • Communication and Stakeholder Management : Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Experience in building consensus, managing expectations, and influencing decision-makers at all levels of the organization.

  • Project/Initiative Management : Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools, with experience leading cross-functional teams in complex, multi-stakeholder projects. Ability to prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, and deliver results within budget and scope.

  • Continuous Learning and Adaptability : Willingness to stay updated on emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in enterprise architecture and business process management. Adaptability to changing business environments and requirements.

  • The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.
